Where you can read my journal entries in the future

Apr. 7th, 2008 | 10:51 am
posted by: duskpeterson in gayleatherlit

I see that I forgot to post a notice here that I'm now blogging at InsaneJournal. My apologies. You can continue to read my entries on gay leather literature and other literary topics by Friending eternaldungeon2, which is a LiveJournal syndicated feed to my InsaneJournal blog (via a digest version of the blog). You're welcome to post replies to my blog entries at InsaneJournal. Just be sure to reply to the original posts rather than to LiveJournal's feed; I won't see your replies if they're posted at LiveJournal.

I post periodic announcements there for my gay leather stories and gay fantasy DS stories. My thoughts on leather topics can generally be found in the Mentoring Life entries.

The future of this community

Sep. 1st, 2007 | 12:15 am
posted by: duskpeterson in gayleatherlit

I'm about to post an official notice about me leaving this community. (I'm going to be posting future blog entries at InsaneJournal - but don't worry, I'll give instructions on how you can watch my blog there on your LiveJournal Friends page.) Before I post the notice, let me ask:

Is there any interest in continuing gayleatherlit as a community for general discussion of gay leather literature?

Only a couple of people besides me have started threads here, but if folks here would like to see this community continue as a general place to discuss gay leather literature, and if anyone would like to step forward and volunteer to be maintainer, I'd be glad to turn the community over to them.

Critiquer needed for leather e-book

Jul. 22nd, 2007 | 03:47 pm
posted by: duskpeterson in gayleatherlit

I need a leather/BDSM person or persons to provide a critique (beta report) of my upcoming e-book, Leather, Licking, and Lawnmowers. I need it critiqued both for leather customs and for erotic activities, since my life ain't nearly as interesting as my protagonist's is. The book is 21,000 words long, about a fifth the size of a novel, and it overlaps with stories that are already online at my domain. If you're interested in helping, please drop me an e-mail.

Upcoming leather e-book and information on my cyber whereabouts

Jun. 9th, 2007 | 08:10 am
posted by: duskpeterson in gayleatherlit

For those of you who haven't already noticed, I'll have a leather e-book coming out later this month, Leather, Licking, and Lawnmowers. I'll post more news here when the e-book is available, but in the meantime, you can see the cover.

In addition, so you'll never have to ask, "Where's Dusk?" (I've also added this to the links section of this community LJ.)

LiveJournal is suspending blogs with illegal activities listed in their Interests keywords

May. 30th, 2007 | 11:06 pm
posted by: duskpeterson in gayleatherlit

The moderator of a fan fiction community that was suspended has posted a letter from the LiveJournal staff in which the staff member states:

"We recognize that many people list these types of interests for shock value, as a method of expressing opposition for these illegal activities, or to indicate fictional activity. Unfortunately, the Abuse team does not have any discretion in these cases; if a journal profile contains interests that support illegal activity, we must suspend the journal."

A summary of the events in the latest purge is available in this post. Here is a list of the affected communities and personal blogs, as far as they've been determined.

This post lists some of the keywords that triggered the LiveJournal staff's suspension of one community. As you can see, they include such keywords as "kidnapping," "rape," and "beating people up."

I would suggest that folks here with LJ blogs do the following:

1) Remove any Interests keywords that relate to illegal activities.

2) If your blog addresses illegal activities in any way, place a disclaimer on your profile page that you do not advocate illegal activities.

At this point, it does not appear that LiveJournal is suspending blogs solely because they contain fiction on illegal activities, so hopefully LiveJournal can get its act together and permit owners of blogs that don't advocate illegal activities to make references to those activities in their Interests. However, at the moment, caution seems best.

Updates on the situation are at the end of this post.

Author Appearances: 2007-8

May. 19th, 2007 | 12:35 am
posted by: duskpeterson in gayleatherlit

This schedule may change as more events are added. The latest news can be found at my Author Appearances page.

I try to attend events in the Baltimore/Washington area that attract authors of gay fiction, leather writings, and (where I can afford it) fantasy and historical fiction.

I'm currently scheduled to attend the following events. If you will be at any of these events also and would like a chance to cross paths, feel free to drop me an e-mail beforehand.

2007

June 1-3: DCLeatherPride (leather festival and educational event). I'll be attending in an unofficial capacity.

July 27-29: Master/slave Conference (leather educational event). Look for me in Vi Johnson's Leather Library, where I'll be assisting.

2008

October 10-13: Gaylaxicon (GLBT science fiction, fantasy, horror, and gaming).

Some activity over at my other journal

Apr. 11th, 2007 | 06:29 am
posted by: duskpeterson in gayleatherlit

I've decided that my duskpeterson journal (which I've hitherto been using only as a place from which to post) has a use after all. I can use it for the little day-to-day progress reports that I don't want to post at my other journals, because some people, I'm sure, are reading these journals mainly for the updates notices.

Feel free to Friend me there. Feel very free to respond to my posts.
